Our
vineyards cover an area of 35 hectares on
the hill sides of the Alpilles at Eygalières, (15 km
from Les Baux de Provence) . Here we grow 6 different
wine varieties:
- Grenache
- Cabernet
- Sauvignon
- Syrah,
- Cinsault
- Carignan
- Merlot
The property
is set in a region with soil rich in limestone and with a
hot, sunny Mediterranean climate. Here the wine gathers its force
from the rocky terrain which lends its characteristics to our production.
The different
wine varieties are harvested separately with an average annual yield
of 40 hectolitres per hectare and is still produced
following traditional practices.
After
production the wine is left to age in Les
Baux de Provence at the magnificent site of the Caves de
Sarragan, an immense and cool, underground “ cathedral, where the constant temperature and humidity allow the
wines to preserve their character to the utmost.
The red
wines, aged in oak barrels, reveal the natural characteristics of
the local wine varieties, they are long on the palate,
with a very sustained balance, perfect as an accompaniment
to roast meat dishes and rich sauces.
The rosé
wines are produced through bleeding the vat, a technique where the
wine is naturally extracted from the top part of
the barrel yielding a natural and pure
wine. The near full-bodied, mature rosés,
which are best drunk chilled, preserve their vigour
and fresh taste on the palate and are ideal with summer barbecues.
